What is a Sibling Class?

Big sister playing with doll at sibling class Did you know that many local hospitals and community centers offer a sibling preparation class to help your child get ready for the arrival of a new baby brother or sister?

Most classes provide:

  • a tour of the hospital
  • activities on how to safely interact with the baby using a doll
  • review of basic baby care
  • an opportunity to ask questions and discuss feelings about their new role as a big brother/big sister

Classes are generally taught by a child birth educator and often separated into specific age groups. With an increase in needs for day care, we are also seeing additional classes being offered for Grandparents.
